Kamegawa Shrine Grand Festival - Mikoshi Parade and Hozuki Market -

The Kamegawa Shrine Grand Festival is a magnificent event rooted in summer rituals to ward off epidemics. The spirit of the main deity, Susanoo no Mikoto, is placed in a mikoshi and parades through the town of Kamegawa over three days, bringing relief from the summer heat. On the first day of the festival, August 1, ceremonies will be held in front of the deity from 10 AM, and the mikoshi will depart from the shrine at 6 PM, parading through Kamegawa Town until the entrance to the shrine at 9 PM on the final day, August 3. On the final day, ascending the 40 steep stone steps of the southern approach to enter the shrine is worth seeing.

Note

On August 1, from 10 AM, a festival ceremony and a Shinto dance by miko will be held in front of the deity. From August 1 to 3, from 2 PM to 9 PM, food stalls and kitchen cars will be set up from the shrine grounds to the southern approach. On August 1, there will be a mikoshi parade from 6 PM to 9 PM. On the 2nd at 4 PM, there will be a brass instrument performance by Kamegawa Elementary School and a performance of Chiba City's designated intangible folk cultural property. On August 3, between 2:30 PM, the mikoshi will parade through the town and will return to the shrine at 9 PM.
