Kihoku Lantern Festival

Giant lanterns and special fireworks enhance Kihoku's summer
The festival features a spectacular display of giant lanterns and colorful fireworks. The 'Color Cloud Peacock,' resembling a peacock spreading its feathers, is a special firework that can only be seen here. The giant lanterns are grandly advanced over the sea, earning them the nickname 'Sea Nebuta.' This year marks the 20th anniversary of Kihoku Town and the 30th anniversary of the friendship city partnership with Shijonawate City. At the lantern festival, giant lanterns modeled after the mascots of both towns, 'Ki-hokun' and 'Kussun,' will make an appearance.
