【Autumn Leaves・Best Viewing】Matsumae Clan Togirichijinya Ruins

Autumn leaves embracing Japan's first Western-style fortress
The jin'ya built by the shogunate to strengthen the defense of Ezochi with the opening of Hakodate Port. During the Hakodate War in the first year of the Meiji era (1868), it was burned and abandoned by the shugo-tai in response to the advance of the shogunate's runaway army, and is currently managed as a nationally designated cultural property. The cherry blossom tunnel leading from the road to the site of the jin'ya is famous for its cherry blossoms, but the autumn foliage is also beautiful.
