Ikkyu-ji Ikkyu Zenzai Day

Zenzai was named by Ikkyu-san
It is said that Zen Master Ikkyu was born on January 1 and was treated to a sweet red bean soup with mochi by the abbot of Daitoku-ji, saying 'Yokikana kono shiru' (this soup is good), leading to the term zenzai. The last Sunday of January is designated as 'Ikkyu Zenzai Day', where participants offer their vows for the year. It is a time to renew one's personal goals for the year and to live empowered by those words throughout the year. After that, a bowl of zenzai will be served. The first 1000 people.
