Ganjoji

Late Mar~Early Apr

The cherry blossom located within the precincts of Ganjoji is said to be a variation of the mountain cherry, with a large number of petals ranging from 20 to 30, designated as a national natural monument. The name's origin, Princess Chujo, fled persecution from her stepmother and wandered from place to place before visiting Ganjoji. At this time, Princess Chujo was ill due to the stress and fatigue from her long journey, but she recovered instantly. In gratitude and with the vow to protect future generations of women, she planted a cherry tree. Even now, delicate flowers bloom in early April.
