Obon Celebration

Lively sending off of the deceased during the Bon Festival
The luxurious and lively Obon celebration, held every year on August 15, is a traditional event in Nagasaki that involves parading the spirits of the deceased on spirit boats through the streets, sending them off to the Pure Land. As dusk falls on the day of the event, the sounds of bells and deafening firecrackers echo from all over the town, and the procession continues late into the night.
