Bunraku (Traditional Japanese Puppet Theatre)

The world of "Bunraku", a stage art woven by national treasures.
Bunraku, one of Japan's representative traditional arts that has continued since the early Edo period. Enjoy a comprehensive art form where the tayu (narrator), shamisen (musical instrument), and puppets come together. In the evening session, to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Chikamatsu Monzaemon's death, the classic Bunraku work "Sonezaki Shinjū" will be performed. Featured performers include Toyotake Wakadayū, Takemoto Chitarō (tayu), Tsutsuzawa Kiyoharu (shamisen/national treasure), and Kiritake Kanjūrō (puppet/national treasure), among others. *Elementary school students and older are allowed entry.
