Kagyocho Jizo Hall Open House

Twice a year open house
Jizo is said to be a bodhisattva who saves sentient beings while wandering through the six paths during the long period from the death of Shakyamuni to the appearance of Maitreya. According to tradition, the main deity of this hall, the Jizo Bodhisattva, was originally a statue from Fukuda-ji Temple (a ruined temple) located at Nishikojima Nishino Tsuji in the former Kagyocho. It is said that after the temple's demise, a building was established at the current site to enshrine it. The revered statue is carved from a single piece of wood and stands 1 meter tall. It is believed to be an ancient statue created by a local sculptor either at the end of the Heian period or in the early Kamakura period, and it has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of the town.
