You can observe the cattle auction for meat calves held every two months for free. Okinawa Prefecture is the 4th largest calf production area in Japan. Many farmers in Kumejima also engage in livestock farming, bringing to auction calves that were born and raised for about 10 months. At the auction, fattening farmers from outside the prefecture purchase the calves, most of which are shipped nationwide as brand beef.
