The materials introduced in this special exhibition are those left by Akiyama Terue (1843-1902), a scholar and Shinto practitioner who served as a town magistrate under the Edo town magistrate during the late Edo period and worked at various shrines as a priest after the Meiji Restoration. They consist of documents, books, and artworks, with a notable feature being the large number of documents related to the town magistrate's office and those related to national studies and Shinto. There are also many letters sent from scholars and poets with whom he had friendships. The drastic changes in the lives of former Bakumatsu officials before and after the Meiji Restoration can be traced through these specific footprints. ■Notes The viewing route in the general exhibition room is 4 km long, so if in a hurry, it is recommended to use the central staircase and proceed from the 4th exhibition room.
