Omihiyama Imokubore Festival

A unique festival that competes for the length of sweet potatoes
The Imokubore Festival is a simple folk festival that has been passed down for over 800 years in the Nakayama Higashi and Nakayama Nishi areas of Hino-cho. Traditional rituals are performed at the festival site, culminating in a unique competition for the length of sweet potatoes. A sake ceremony is held at Kumano Shrine, after which separate paths lead east and west to the festival site on Nogamiyama. It has long been said that if the west wins, it will be a good harvest, and if the east wins, it will be a poor harvest. It was designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by the national government in 1991.
