Mount Fuji Opening Eve Festival

Summer of Mount Fuji begins
On the Yamanashi side of the Fuji climbing trail, the mountain opening ceremony is held every year on July 1. The night before, on June 30, the Fujisan Opening Eve Festival is conducted. Participants, including current Fujiko practitioners and local citizens, will parade from Kintori Park to the Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine, which is the starting point of the Yoshida Trail. After arriving at the shrine, offerings of Kagura dance, the Nagoshi no Harae ceremony, and the Chinu no Wakuguri will be held. Around 16:00, the Shinto ritual for the opening of the path will be conducted, signaling the start of the climbing season for Mount Fuji.
