Hanayu Festival

A spectacular giant tug of war "Jinsho"!

Misasa Onsen Town

5/3(Sat)

5/4(Sun)

The "Jinsho" is the giant tug of war held every year on May 4th at Misasa Onsen, where wisteria vines are woven together to create a huge female and male rope, which are then combined and pulled apart in a heroic traditional event divided east and west. The Jinsho in Misasa is recognized as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset of the country. It is said that if the east wins, there will be a good harvest, and if the west wins, business will prosper. The ropes made from vines are rare even across the country. The Jinsho is the main event of the Hanayu Festival, and each rope reaches a length of 80 meters, with a maximum circumference of 2 meters and weighs 2 tons.
