Children's Strong Rice Ceremony

An unusual festival designated as an intangible folk cultural asset of the city
Youngsters dressed as Yamabushi and Kyouriki (elementary and middle school students) appear at the sound of conch shells and drums. They boldly recite chants to adults called 'Shin-yaku' and insist on serving them a heaping bowl of rice. Afterwards, during 'Gohan Tabi ni Annai Mon', the officiant presents taro to two boys dressed as shrine parishioners in white robes three times each, feeding them. Then, in the 'Haru Koma-shiki', two shrine parishioners ride on stilts and run around inside the worship hall as a sacred ritual is performed. This unusual festival, designated as an intangible folk cultural asset of the city, prays for good health and safety.
