Special Exhibition 'Introduction to Wood Tablets'

An easy introduction to what fragments of wood tablets are
More than 1,200 ancient wood tablets have been excavated at the Dazaifu historical site to date. The Kyushu Historical Museum has been conducting research on wood tablets for over 50 years as a research center for the study of wood tablets in Kyushu, focusing on the wood tablets excavated from the Dazaifu historical site. This exhibition provides an easy-to-understand introduction to what wood tablets are, the research methods for studying them, and basic preservation and management matters, using primarily wood tablets excavated from the Dazaifu site, along with models, replicas, and panels.
