Kamo Shrine Festival: Ashifuse Souba (Traditional Horse Racing)

Traditional Horse Racing Festival
This shrine, which has a connection to horses, has been holding traditional horse racing rituals passed down since ancient times. Jockeys and horses race through a tunnel of trees, competing fiercely on a 400-meter straight course. It is also referred to as "Seven Horses, Seven Rituals," where the outcome is determined by seven horses. Two horses run at a time, and rankings are determined in a tournament style. Currently, there are only two events left in the country recognized as traditional horse racing, making it a valuable experience to understand contemporary horse racing.
