Fugen Festival

The sea bodhisattva of the port town Murozumi, Fugenji's early summer grand festival
Fugenji, located in Murozumi, Hikari City, is a temple said to have been established by the monk Shiki Sū in the Heian period and is known for gathering faith from all over Japan as the "sea bodhisattva". The "Fugen Festival", held every May, is a historic festival that began in the mid-Edo period in commemoration of the anniversary of Shiki Sū's death. Along the roads surrounding Fugenji, traditional stalls selling old-style plants, agricultural tools, pottery, and more line the streets, bustling with many worshippers day and night.
