Memorial Temple of Lady Oi

Chozanji

Mid-Nov~Late Nov

A Rinzai sect temple in Ayuzawa, Minami-Alps City. The precincts are said to be the ruins of Seikoji, a large temple of the Shingon sect that once existed. In 1316 (Showa 5), the monk Muso Kokushi founded Chozanji. The tree, approximately 700 years old, referred to as "Muso Kokushi's hand-planted four Buxus", is designated as a special natural monument by the country. In autumn, the trees at the gate and within the precincts turn a vivid red. It is the memorial temple of Lady Oi, the mother of Shingen.
