Kosuge Shrine Grand Festival "Hashiramatsu Shinto Ceremony"

A Shugendo festival held every three years
Every three years, the "Hashiramatsu Shinto Ceremony" is held at Mt. Kosuge, one of the three major Shugendo spiritual sites in Northern Shinano, founded 1300 years ago by the founder of Shugendo. It is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset of the country and is believed to have started as part of the Goma ritual of Shingon during a time when it flourished as a sacred place of mountain worship and a dojo for both Shinto and Buddhism. It is said that if the upper (kami) wins, the world will be peaceful, and if the lower (shimo) wins, there will be a rich harvest.
