Murayama Photo Studio: Life and Portraits of the Deceased

Loss and daily life interwoven through photography

Yatsugatake Art Museum (Harabura Historical and Folklore Museum)

9/20(Sat)~12/7(Sun) 09:00~17:00

An introduction to the practice of a photographer living in Fujimi Town. Murayama explores the utility that photographs in daily life bring to people. It focuses on photography and frames as crafts that engage with the body, bringing to light the intersection between a stagnant past and everyday life. In the 'Portraits of Objects' series, which aims the lens at people's experiences of loss, the belongings of the deceased and the personal items that clients had to let go of are preserved, presenting a form of portrait that is not limited to just likenesses.
