On the 3rd, the festival's largest event "Minamoto no Yoshitsune's Eastward Procession" takes place, featuring popular actors and talents portraying Yoshitsune. It reenacts the scene where he fled from his brother Yoritomo to Hiraizumi and was warmly welcomed by Fujiwara Hidehira, reminiscent of a Heian-era picture scroll. About 100 participants parade through the town, attracting many tourists along the roadside. There are also performances of Noh from Chuson-ji, Men'en dance from the important intangible folk cultural asset Motsu-ji, and local traditional arts such as deer dancing.
