Kasumi Sakura in Katsuoka (Peak Bloom)

Approximately 400-year-old giant tree
The 'Kasumi Sakura' in Katsuoka is rare in the country, being over 400 years old, with a trunk circumference of about 6 meters at eye level. When in full bloom, it appears beautifully hazy from a distance, and it is designated as a natural monument by Akita Prefecture. There is a hot spring accommodation facility on site, and during the blooming season, photographers and tourists visit daily to see this single cherry blossom tree. It is also the 67th pilgrimage site on the 'Tohoku Dream Cherry Blossom Road'.
