The Trendsetter – Tsutaya Juzaburo and the Work of Publishers

The publisher, who managed the planning, production, and sales of Ukiyo-e during the Edo period, is also a producer. This exhibition highlights such publishers, introducing figures like Tsutaya Juzaburo, who discovered ukiyo-e artists like Utamaro and Sharaku, as well as the publishers involved in Hiroshige's works in the large exhibition room. It will also showcase the creativity employed by these publishers and the unique characteristics of woodblock prints. In the small exhibition room, there will be a special display titled 'Contemporary Publishers: Geisodo', in collaboration with the publisher 'Geisodo', which is still publishing books using woodblock printing in Kyoto.

The museum is closed every Monday (open on public holidays, closed the following weekday). Admission is until 30 minutes before closing (until 16:30).
