Shimoda Taiko Festival

Shimoda Hachiman Shrine Grand Festival
The Taiko Festival (officially known as the Shimoda Hachiman Shrine Grand Festival) features taiko floats parading through the town from various communities behind tools and portable shrines on August 14 and 15, honoring the deified Emperor Ojin at Shimoda Hachiman Shrine. This style was established by the second Shimoda public servant from the Edo period, Den Shirō Imamura Masanaga, and is reminiscent of the drum corps that entered Osaka Castle triumphantly after a great victory in the summer siege of Osaka by the Tokugawa forces, as they boldly displayed the prestige of the Tokugawa and inspired their morale.
