Hiraizumi Daimonji Okuribi

A prayer for peace, concluding summer with the Daimonji Fire
The Daimonji Okuribi is held annually as a memorial for the war dead and for the ancestor spirits. The flame, which has been passed down from the eternal law lamp of Chuson-ji, is carried to the mountain and ignited. The red character '大' rises prominently on Mt. Tsukinokoshi viewed from the town.
