Iwase Hikiyama Festival

The powerful fighting floats pulled by the men of the beach
The Iwase Hikiyama Festival is held as the spring festival of the Iwase Suwa Shrine, where 11 floats boldly parade through the town. The decorations called 'tatemon' on top of the floats are a highlight, as each float has a unique design every year, focusing on prosperity in business or current events. At night, the festival reaches its climax, with fierce collisions between floats and a tug-of-war where they test each other's strength. Due to the intensity of this tug-of-war, it is affectionately known as the 'fighting floats,' and it is a festival rich in history and tradition. ■Notes Inquiries are welcome on weekdays only (closed on weekends)
