The Kanmon Straits Fireworks Festival, which colors the summer night sky of the Kanmon Straits, began in 1985 for people returning home for Obon. With 15,000 launch fireworks and elaborately planned display fireworks, this spectacular fireworks festival unfolds on both banks of Shimonoseki and Moji, and is now counted among the leading fireworks festivals in Japan. The gorgeous fireworks launched from both banks of the straits against the backdrop of the beautiful night view of the Kanmon Straits enthrall spectators.
