Nikko Toshogu Shrine Spring Grand Festival

A grand spring festival is held.
Starting around 10 AM on the 17th, the festival begins, followed by the sacred horse archery ceremony around 1 PM. In the evening, the deity of Toshogu Shrine boards a portable shrine and proceeds to the Nikkō Futarasan Shrine to perform the Yoimatsuri. After a ritual to transfer the spirit from the portable shrine to the main hall of Futarasan Shrine, the deities of both shrines spend the night together. The procession festival on the 18th (a parade of 1,000 warriors) begins around 11 AM, reenacting the procession when Tokugawa Ieyasu was reburied from Kunozan to Nikko. After proceeding from Futarasan Shrine to the temporary shrine for the portable shrine procession, the main shrine festival is held. On the 17th, the procession departs from the temporary shrine around 1 PM and returns to the portable shrine.
