Hamazaki Gion Festival

The largest Yamakasa festival in Kyushu proudly parades through the town
A traditional event that began in the mid-Edo period (year 1753) to pray for the cessation of epidemics and bountiful harvests. It is a magnificent festival where about 150 men in traditional attire pull three decorative Yamakasa, each 15 meters tall. The unique accompaniment featuring flutes, drums, and shamisen, as well as the O-magiri at the end of the festival where the giant Yamakasa is spun multiple times, are must-see attractions. Designated as an important intangible folk cultural asset of the city.
