Yuzawa Tanabata Painting Lantern Festival

Akita Yuzawa Summer Tradition
The Yuzawa "Tanabata Painting Lantern Festival" is said to have started when a lady from the Satake family of the Akita domain, who had entered through a procession from Kyoto, adorned green bamboo with colored strips of paper imbued with nostalgic feelings. Over a hundred painted lanterns featuring ukiyo-e and bijin-ga elegantly illuminate the evening sky. Let’s embark on a fantastical world of Akita Yuzawa. Various events are scheduled, including Tanabata dances, powerful traditional Japanese drumming, a Tanabata concert, and a local product exhibition sale.
