Basara Festival

Nara's summer is changing. Nara's summer changes the era
Originally, Basara refers to a trend that became popular during the Kamakura and Muromachi periods, where performers intentionally broke rhythms in music and dance to stand out freely. It succinctly expresses the aesthetic sensibilities and values of the tumultuous Northern and Southern Dynasties period, and the power of this expression has been revived in modern times through a new summer festival in the ancient city of Nara, called the "Basara Festival." This festival, which is characterized by a lively, community-participatory atmosphere, features various dance teams showcasing performances with creatively designed costumes and dances. Participation in the spontaneous dance teams on the day of the event is free. For participation details, please check the website.
