Ogi Onsa

The portable shrine procession livens up the downtown area
The "Ogi Onsa", which adds color to the summer in Kagoshima, is a traditional festival held since the Edo period to pray for the elimination of plague and prosperous business. The highlight is the Shinko procession, which transforms the main street of Kagoshima City into a pedestrian paradise, with a parade about 2.5 km long featuring approximately 3,000 participants, walking elegantly and exuberantly, creating a grand and solemn atmosphere. The evening festival, held at Chuo Park as a preliminary event, features displays of portable shrines and floats, with special stages and food and game booths set up.
