Uesugi Shrine, dedicated to Uesugi Kenshin, the founder of the Yonezawa Domain's Uesugi clan, and Matsukasa Shrine, which enshrines figures like Uesugi Yozan, Uesugi Kagekatsu, and Naoe Kanetsugu, begins as the spring festival for these shrines. During the festival period, the city is decorated in a festive theme. The highlight is the recreation of the 'Battle of Kawanakajima,' said to be the largest and fiercest battle in Sengoku history, where the Uesugi and Takeda armies clash. Participants can also join the festival dressed as armored warriors.
