Takaoka Mikurumayama Festival

Flowers transcending time go forth
The Takaoka Mikurumayama Festival is a luxurious and splendid float festival that showcases the essence of Takaoka's traditional crafts, held every year on May 1. It began when Maeda Toshinaga, the founder of Takaoka, gave the floats, received from Toyotomi Hideyoshi, to the townspeople, boasting a history of 400 years. It is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by the country and registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016. You can experience the essence of traditional craftsmanship in the manufacturing town of Takaoka up close.
