Zen Monk Training / Zen Sōzan TRAIL RUNNING & MEDITATION 2025
Starting with zazen, followed by rice porridge, sutra chanting, and endurance running.
Jōman-ji Temple in Yoshida, Kaiyo Town, Kaifu District, Tokushima Prefecture. The surrounding mountains are called 'Zen Sōzan', and it is said that training monks once ran and practiced seated meditation there. After doing zazen, rice porridge, and sutra chanting at Jōman-ji Temple from early morning, participants will embark on a six-hour endurance run on nearby mountain trails. As the running continues, the workings of the mind, will, and consciousness begin to separate from one's hands, resulting in a state where only the 'light' of the world becomes one. Let us step into that realm and remember the training of Zen monks and their era. For ages 20 and over.
