[Ajisai - Best Viewing] Nippeiji

1,000 hydrangeas blooming at an ancient temple

Nippeiji

Late May~Late Jun

Nippeiji is located in Manasudani, west of Itoga Town, and was originally called Manas dera. It once had seven temple buildings but declined over time and was revived during the Nippei era (1151–1153). Although it is an ancient temple, it is currently uninhabited. The main image is a seated statue of Yakushi Nyorai (from the late Heian period or Kamakura period), along with ancient statues of Amida and Kannon housed in a small hall. There is also a city-designated cultural property, a statue of Daikokuten Bisamon, from the Kamakura period. The temple grounds are planted with hydrangeas and white wisteria, creating a moist and emotional atmosphere during the peak viewing season.
