Kashima Odori
The call of 'Yassa! Yassa!' resonates during the grand dance
The Kashima Odori began in the year following the major flood disaster in 1962, to uplift the spirits of the citizens. On the day of the event, the area around the central shopping district becomes a pedestrian paradise, where dancers dressed in matching happi coats and yukatas dance while vigorously shouting 'Yassa! Yassa!'. After the dance on the 9th (Saturday), the 'Kashima Citizens' Summer Fireworks Festival' will be held.
