Hiroshima Crying Sumo

Crying babies grow! Gather, babies!
The crying sumo event for babies held at Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine on Children's Day involves a contest where the first one to cry wins. More than winning or losing, it is a sacred event wishing for the child's protection from calamity and healthy growth. Participation is open to babies aged 6 months to 1.5 years, and participants receive commemorative items and amulets. A purification ceremony is also conducted at the shrine. Note that the participation capacity for Reiwa 7 has already been reached, and registration has closed. Registration for the Reiwa 8 event will start on May 6, 2024 (Tuesday).
