Geta Market

The Black River festival that started in the Edo period
The traditional 'Geta Market' is held every year on August 14 on Kawabata Street in Kuroe, Kainan City, known as one of the three major lacquerware production areas in Japan. It is said to have a history of over 150 years, originating from the practice of lacquer craftsmen returning to their hometowns in new geta sandals during the Obon festival. Many night stalls line the streets, attracting more than 30,000 people each year. ■Notes Please be aware that some areas around the venue will be closed to vehicles on the day of the event.
