The 56th Tanegashima Matchlock Gun Festival

A powerful test firing of matchlock guns and fireworks lighting up the night sky
The largest festival in Tanegashima, held to commemorate the arrival of matchlock guns. The festival features a drum mountain and children's portable shrines parading through the streets, a Nanban parade dressed as figures related to the arrival of matchlock guns, a harbor festival where fishing boats parade in Nishinoomote Harbor carrying large fishing flags, and a performing arts festival showcasing performances from children to adults, surrounded by summer fair stands known as 'yomise'. The festival concludes with a fireworks display that brightens the night sky, with impressive bursts overhead and underwater fireworks.
