Kakunodate Festival Yamagai Event

A festival that colors Kakunodate
Held annually from September 7th to 9th, the festival at Shinmeisha Shrine and Yakushido is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by the country and as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The elegance of the hand dance performed to the sound of the oyama bayashi and the thrilling hikimawashi make this festival special. The route for hikimawashi is not predetermined, and when they cross paths in the narrow town, 'negotiations' occur over road priority. If these negotiations break down, it leads to a 'yamabuttuke', which is fitting for the climax of the festival, where both the hikite and the oyama bayashi reach their peak.
