The oldest temple in Wakayama Prefecture is adorned with cherry blossoms
The oldest temple in Wakayama Prefecture, Amanezan Doshinji, was founded in the first year of Taiho (701 AD). It enshrines important cultural properties such as the main hall and various Buddhist statues designated as national treasures and cultural properties. In spring, the Somei Yoshino and weeping cherry trees planted in the precincts and the back mountain bloom beautifully. In particular, the 'Nyusouzakura' located next to the main hall is famous... although it is currently the second generation, the first-generation cherry tree was designated as a natural monument of Wakayama Prefecture. After being broken by a typhoon in the early Showa period, the second generation has been responsible for the spring face of Doshinji.
