39th Awai Ajisai Festival

Awai Shrine is one of the 24 shrines classified under the Sanuki Engi-shiki, and it is a shrine with a distinguished history. During the Edo period, it was highly revered by the Ikoma and Kyogoku families. Since around 1985, the Awai Community Association and the City Event Council have started planting hydrangeas, and now approximately 3,000 colorful hydrangea plants bloom from June to July. The Ajisai Festival features not only children's artwork exhibitions but also events such as ceremonies, Kagura dances, taiko performances, and brass band music, mainly on weekends. Let's have fun surrounded by beautiful flowers.

June 7 (Sat) 14:00-14:30 Ceremony 14:30-15:00 Kagura, June 8 (Sun) 14:00-16:00 Kagura (Karita Kagura Group), June 15 (Sun) 10:00-13:00 Belly Dance, Brass Band, Soap Bubbles, Taiko, Goldfish Scooping. *Daily exhibitions of works by elementary school students and preschoolers will be held at the Ema Hall during the period (until 14:00 on the final day).

Use Awai Elementary School (not allowed in rainy weather) and Awai Community Center. About a 15-minute walk from the parking lot to the shrine.

Access (Public)

Take the Awai Himehama Line shared bus from JR Kanonji Station and tell the driver "Awai Shrine" (4 buses a day, no service on Sundays).
