Weston Festival

A festival to remember Weston, the father of modern mountaineering
An event to honor and remember the achievements of British missionary Walter Weston, who is said to be the father of modern mountaineering in Japan, introducing the Japanese Alps and Kamikochi to the world and conveying the joy of mountain climbing, is held every year on the first Saturday and Sunday of June. On Saturday, there is a commemorative mountain climbing trip to Kamikochi. The ceremony on Sunday includes offerings of flowers, poetry readings, choral singing, and commemorative lectures in front of the Weston relief.
