Sōhei Matsuri

The biggest festival in the prefecture - A festival of flames
The Sōhei Matsuri is one of the largest fire festivals in the prefecture, held every autumn at Yunoyama Onsen, Mie Prefecture. It honors the bravery, endurance, and sense of justice of over 300 monks who armed themselves to protect their temple against the tyranny of the samurai government. The festival recreates the appearance of these monks from the Meiji era, and it continues to be passed down through generations. Known as a unique and hidden festival, viewers are captivated by the blazing flames. Come and see the powerful 'Hono Mikoshi' and 'Kaede Mikoshi'.
