The 88th Shoyo Festival "Shoyo Tsubouchi and Harushiro Ichijima - From the Letters to Shoyo by Harushiro -"

What role did Harushiro play in Shoyo's activities?
The three individuals, Shoyo Tsubouchi, Harushiro Ichijima, and Sanae Takada, entered the Faculty of Letters at Tokyo University in 1878 (Meiji 11) where they studied together. They devoted themselves to the management of Waseda University, and their friendship remained unchanged throughout their lives. Harushiro Ichijima wrote numerous essays about his memories with Shoyo, but this spring, by reprinting and publishing 80 letters from Harushiro to Shoyo, we can specifically read about their interaction. From those letters, we will introduce interesting episodes and rethink the role that Harushiro played in Shoyo's activities.
