[Sakura - Best Viewing] Karijuku no Gemba Sakura

One of Japan's Five Great Cherry Blossoms

Karijuku no Gemba Sakura

Mid-Apr

The "Karijuku no Gemba Sakura," where Minamoto no Yoritomo is said to have tied his beloved horse during the hunting expedition in Fuji in 1193, is one of the oldest Yama Sakura trees in Japan (estimated to be over 800 years old) and is designated as a Special Natural Monument of Japan. During the blooming period, the rapeseed flowers planted around the cherry tree also bloom, attracting many visitors each year. The "Karijuku Sakura Festival" held annually in conjunction with the blooming features stage performances including kyogen, tea ceremonies, and sales of local specialties.
