Seabird Capture Site Public Viewing

Hitachi City, which supplies seabirds used in cormorant fishing such as in the Nagara River in Gifu Prefecture, is the only place in the country to do so. The public viewing of the capture site is held twice a year from July to September and from January to March, when it does not interfere with the capture. Visitors can observe the capture site, called 'Toya,' and hear directly from the catchers about the ecology of seabirds and the methods of capture. ■Notes Reservations are required for group visits.
