Rengekai and Frog Jumping Ceremony

A traditional event where lotus flowers are offered and frogs jump
One of the three major events at Kinpusenji Temple, alongside the Hanakuyo Zaboh Ceremony and the Setsubun Festival. On July 7th, a ceremony is held to offer pure lotus flowers from the Benten Pond in Okuda, Takada, where it is said that the monk En no Gyōja was bathed. During the Frog Jumping Ceremony, a dashi (floated drum) carrying a large blue frog is paraded into the Zao Hall, and after a service, the ritual of frog jumping takes place, culminating in a happy return to human form through the priest's initiation. It is a rare opportunity to witness this humorous yet traditional ceremony right before your eyes.
