The 102nd Ishinomaki River Opening Festival

A major summer event symbolizing Ishinomaki
This is Ishinomaki's largest festival, held as a token of gratitude to Mr. Kawamura Sonbee Shigeyoshi, who dug the Kitakami River and opened a port in Ishinomaki, as well as a memorial for those who have lost their lives in rivers and seas. The entire town comes together to celebrate. During the festival period, various ceremonial events, Sonbee boat races, land parades, and large catch dances will be held, continuing from last year with a variety of events. On the 2nd (Saturday), a fireworks festival will also take place, so why not come and enjoy it!
